My Newest Pet Peeve

It has been a little too long since I had a nice little rant on my blog. So here it goes...

You know what drives me crazy!? When restaurants or nice establishments/stores don't have changing tables in their bathrooms. What exactly would they like us to do? Sometimes it is too cold to bring the baby out to the car to change him. And I can honestly say there is no way to plan when your little man decides to go. I am really not comfortable with putting his changing pad on a bathroom floor. I was thinking about setting him up on the sink counter but then what if someone else comes in to wash their hands and then there I am with a baby and a nice poopy diaper. I am sure that would get me some mean looks.

I went into a Starbucks and they didn't have a changing table! I mean Starbucks, really!?!?! I just paid four bucks for a drink... I think you can afford to put a changing table in the ladies bathroom.

Maybe next time I go to a restaurant and they don't have one, I will have to take my stinky baby for a little frat lap around the restaurant. Then the stench can ruin everyone's appetite and that will teach the restaurant a lesson.

Any other mamas have this problem? If so, what was your solution?

Well I am off to finish watching the football game. I think I am pulling for Auburn tonight. I will leave you with a cute photo of my little stinker! :)

  1. I work at Starbucks and a customer brought it up to us and we ordered two-- one for each restroom. I'm not a mama, but it always makes me smile when I see somewhere has a nice changing station or a family restroom!

  5. he's gonna be a heartbreaker for sure.

i'm not a mama, but i was at lunch with my co-worker and her baby at Bohemian on Stone Ave in Gville and they didn't have a changing table or only a pedastal sink. so she got pissed and had to take her baby to her car she parked across the street to change him. but that food is too delish. so if you ever want some...just order pick-up. ;)

  6. I've had to set up on the sink, before, several times. And when Little S was small enough, I'd change her on my lap while I was sitting on the toilet. I know that seems like a huge mess, but what's a girl to do?!? It's really unfair, I think. You know what's really brutal? A family portrait studio that I used to visit didn't have changing tables. WHAT?! I especially hate when family oriented places or even just regular restaurants assume that changing tables are only needed in the women's restroom. What about a dad taking the baby for a change? Or if he's a single father, for that matter?!

  7. SO ANNOYING! I am shocked by how many places we've gone that don't have one. I had sit on a hard tile floor to change BabyGirl at a restaurant a few weeks ago. Thank goodness she stayed on the changing pad bc I can't even think about how germy that floor was. I've also changed her in my lap when she was teeny tiny at several places where it was just too time consuming to find the bathroom. Sorry Nordstrom and the cafeteria at MUSC :)

  8. You are NOT kidding!!! Lallie had a major #2 accident in a restaurant, all over me, all over here and NO changing table in the restroom!! Since it was a place we visit often and the manager knows us, I explained. Three years later, still no changing table. Awful!!

  10. Newberry's Opera house doesn't have a changing table. So Bryce got her poopy diaper changed ON THE SOFA in the "waiting room" before you enter the women's restroom. The worst part was, 20 minutes later when I went back into the restroom, another mother was changing her baby's diaper on the same sofa.

  11. I've experienced that a lot! I love your idea about taking a stroll through the restaurant to give everyone a whiff! :) I would do it right in the booth...some sinks aren't even big enough!

  12. Well I don't have children but I know what you mean. I'm rather embarassed to repeat this...but we were at dinner with our friends who have a young daughter. They didn't have changing tables and so the dad got upset and started changing her on a table in the back. They saw him and got really upset with him and he was like well what was I supposed to do?! Hahahaha! We were mortified but he had a point.

  13. I have a funny story about said changing tables. My 3-year old noticed that there is a picture of a Koala on the side of most of them and said they were only for changing baby koalas. He does have a point, why is there a koala?

In answer to your question, I have actually changed both of my kids in my lap! Not the easiest of tasks but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

  14. I absolutely hate this too!!! I mean really, what do they want us to do?! I've actually had to sit on a toilet before and use my legs/knees as a table to change my toddler. Granted, it is more "doable" at that age. With an infant, I don't know what I'd do!!

  15. Depending on what kind of stroller you use, you can recline it and change him in there. Otherwise on your lap (his head by your knees).SUCH A PAIN! No excuses anymore-should have a changing table in all restaurants!
